{"status":"ok","records":[{"title":"Sesquicentennial in Swede Hill","text":"First Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Greenwich Celebrates Sesquicentennial at 150 years!\r\n\r\nDuring this Jubilee Year, we are celebrating 150 years of the Lutheran faith in East Greenwich, which predates even the earliest Lutheran churches in Rhode Island. \u0093Knowing Jesus, we love and care for all through the power of Christ\u0094 is the current mission statement. All are welcome. \r\n\r\nThe Swedish language was spoken in church services until 1928 when Swedish and English were spoken on alternate Sundays. In 1943, use of the Swedish language was discontinued, and the church name changed from the Swedish Lutheran Church of East Greenwich to First Evangelical Lutheran Church (FELC).  \r\n\r\nAfter 150 years, First Lutheran is still \u0093gathered around the Word of God to grow as individuals and as a congregation\u0094. The sauna is a sacred space that brings families, friends, and even diplomats together. Finns bring sauna wherever they go, including the United States, and the tradition still thrives in certain regions of America where many Finnish people have settled. Sauna is Life: Sauna Culture in Finland explores the Finnish sauna tradition with a model sauna and sauna objects as well as stories, photos, and videos shared with us from home and abroad. In addition to Finnish sauna, the exhibition presents related sweating practices from cultural groups around the world, including the Japanese and the Lakota in the United States, highlighting their similarities and differences to Finnish sauna. Visit Sauna is Life: Sauna Culture in Finland to experience this special cultural practice and create your own sauna memories.\r\n\r\nSauna is Life: Sauna Culture in Finland will be on view at ASHM from October 18, 2024 to March 9, 2025. Admission is included with ASHM general tickets. The plant life cycle is thus superimposed on the life cycle of a human, and it takes form in imagined flora that springs from everyday human life experiences:\r\n\r\nBirth, childhood, adolescence, maturity, and old age\r\n\r\nIn today's digital age, technology permeates every aspect of our existence and the distinction between natural and artificial is increasingly blurred.
